To the Top of Davis County: Thurston Peak
π Saturday, April 25
π 7:00 AM Start
π Thurston Peak via Great Western Trail β Layton, UT
π₯Ύ Hard | ~14.8 miles | 5,249 ft Elevation Gain | Summit: 9,706 ft
This is not your average Saturday hike β and that's exactly the point.
Join Girls Gone Hikingβ’ for one of the most ambitious and rewarding trails we've tackled yet. Thurston Peak is the highest point in both Davis and Morgan Counties, and the Great Western Trail route earns every bit of that summit. This is a full-day commitment: long miles, serious elevation, and the kind of physical and mental challenge that reminds you what you're truly capable of.
The trail begins with a gradual climb through dense scrub oak and switchback after switchback before opening up to ridgeline views that stretch across the entire Wasatch Front. Alpine meadows, wildflowers, and sweeping sightlines toward the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island, and Morgan Valley greet you as you push higher. The final stretch to the summit requires a short off-trail scramble β and then you're on top of the world.
Early start time is intentional. With nearly 15 miles and 5,000+ feet of gain, we want every advantage the morning gives us. Come prepared, come committed, and come ready to dig deep alongside an incredible group of women.
β¨ What to Expect:
A serious, full-day effort β plan for 9β11 hours on trail
Relentless switchbacks giving way to stunning ridgeline and alpine meadow terrain
360Β° summit views of the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island, and Morgan Valley
A short off-trail scramble to the true summit
Small, committed group energy β this one will bond you for life ποΈ
Come fueled and ready: bring plenty of water, high-energy snacks, trekking poles, and layers. April conditions at elevation may include snow or mud β trail runners or sturdy hiking boots required. No shade in upper sections, so sun protection is a must.
This hike is best suited for those with prior endurance hiking experience. Please assess your fitness honestly before registering.
Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start promptly at 7:00 AM. Registration and signed waiver are required prior to attending.
